The Harewood Hockey Club encourages participation from overseas players and welcomes players keen on visiting New Zealand for an overseas experience "down under". The Harewood Hockey Club is a local sports club based in a north-west suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand. 

Hockey in New Zealand is primarily an amateur sport with most coaching and administration roles being fulfilled by volunteers.

The New Zealand hockey season starts in April and goes through to the end of September. Pre-season training starts around early February/March. Over the summer months from October through March, hockey activity in New Zealand is minimal.
